Obituary

The Reverend Basil Howard Smith, a dedicated ordained minister, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and practical wisdom. He passed away Sunday, May 24 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born October 2, 1939 in Crooksville, Ohio to the late Carl William Smith, Jr. and Ruby Doris Brown Smith.

Rev. Smith committed his life to spiritual leadership, guiding his congregations with steady grace and a comforting presence. Known for his ability to offer strength in times of crisis and a listening ear to anyone in need, his ministry extended far beyond the walls of the church. He was a trusted advisor, a compassionate counselor, and a beacon of hope to the many lives he touched through his service.

Beyond his ministerial calling, Basil was also an avid mechanic at heart who genuinely enjoyed working on cars. For Basil, time spent under the hood of an automobile was both a favorite pastime and a form of quiet meditation. He found great joy in diagnosing a mechanical problem, turning a wrench, and restoring an engine to its peak performance - often using his skills to help neighbors and friends keep their own vehicles running smoothly.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Mark & Julie Smith of Baxley, Georgia, Stephen & Janet Smith, of St. Johns, Florida and Daniel & Dorothy Smith, of Jacksonville, Florida.

Memorialization will be by cremation.
